ORR seeks improvement on Highways England’s capital planning, asset management and data reporting

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today released its Update on Highways England’s capital planning and asset management, outlining Highways England’s progress in developing better plans for maintaining and improving the motorways and main A roads. It highlights areas where ORR expects further improvement, including Highways England’s management of the condition of roads.

An ORR spokesperson said: "Yesterday we published our report on the introduction of DOO on GTR – Southern which confirmed that Driver Only Operation is a safe method of working. As with all types of train dispatch, including dispatch by station staff and guards, this requires suitable equipment, proper procedures and competent staff in place.

ORR has scrutinised this approach, and our inspectors are satisfied that with suitable equipment, proper procedures and competent staff in place, it is a safe method of working."
