Rail passengers

Our inspectors normally enforce health and safety standards by giving advice on how to comply with the law. Sometimes they must order people to make improvements by issuing them with a notice, for example a prohibition notice, which prohibits an activity until remedial action has been taken.

We are not the regulator for fares and have no role in relation to penalty fares.

We are responsible for making sure passengers are protected by railway companies from any health and safety risks, such as crowding, which we take very seriously.
