Heritage train operator prohibited from running rail services

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today issued a Prohibition Notice to West Coast Railway Company Ltd (WCRC) preventing it running its heritage rail services on the mainline railway. The Notice relates to concerns about WCRC’s management of safety, following a number of incidents over the past year.

Babcock Rail fined £400,000 after track worker injured in Flintshire

Engineering company, Babcock Rail Limited, has today been fined £400,000 for breaching of health and safety laws which led to a rail worker suffering injuries while renewing rail track in Flintshire, north-east Wales, two years ago. This follows a prosecution brought by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).

Carillion Construction fined £200,000 for Lincolnshire railway death

Carillion Construction Ltd has today been fined £200,000 and ordered to pay costs of £36,570.39 following a prosecution brought by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) for breaching health and safety laws which led to the death of a railway worker.

Glasgow Central still the most used station in Scotland

Glasgow Central remains the most heavily used station in Scotland, clocking almost 29 million passenger entries and exits last year – an increase of over 1.8m (or 7%) compared to 2013-14, according to latest Estimates of Station Usage data published today by the Office of Rail and Road.

Cardiff Central remains the most-used station in Wales, clocking over 11 million passenger entries and exits last year – an increase of almost 200,000 (or 2%) compared to 2013-14, reveals data published today by the Office of Rail and Road.

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has today started criminal proceedings against train operator West Coast Railway Company Limited (WCRC) and one of its drivers. The charges relate to breaches of Health and Safety Law which led to a train passing a signal warning at danger on 7 March 2015.
