Cardiff Central still most heavily used station in Wales

The data for station usage in Wales for April 2012 - March 2013 also shows that:

• Cardiff Queen Street is second most heavily used station. It saw a slight rise in users of 6,318– a 0.3% increase over the year before.
• Cardiff Bay Station was the biggest climber in the Welsh station usage top 10. It saw an increase of 75,744 entries and exits – a 9.5% jump over last year.
• Bridgend saw a drop of 31,668 entries and exits – a 2% decrease on 2011-12.

2. The increase in numbers of entries and exits at Cardiff Bay may be due to the higher number of services operating through Cardiff Bay.
3. Estimates of station usage statistics record the number of passengers travelling to and from each station (entries and exits) in England, Scotland and Wales. Figures are based on ticket sales data recorded in rail industry systems.
4. There are limitations to the dataset, as the figures are estimates and do not represent exact numbers. There have been a number of methodological improvements to the data in 2012-13 and details of these can be found in the report that accompanies the release.
5. The figures are presented in alphabetical order according to station name but can be reordered by a variety of categories – e.g. number of passenger entries and exits, country or region, county or unitary authority. Guidance notes on how to filter the data are published alongside the Excel spreadsheet.
