With the introduction of driver licences (Train Driver Licences and Certificate Regulations, 2010) we have seen an upturn in enquiries on fitness for work, a need for greater understanding on fitness requirements associated with safety critical work and questions on where to locate the relevant law and industry standards.
Recent incidents, in the rail industry and wider, have underlined the importance of fitness for work assessments and the difficult decision-making surrounding them. The need for effective collaboration involving human resources, occupational health, managers and individuals who undertake safety critical work is essential.
