Prohibition notices

Body
Components

Our inspectors normally enforce health and safety standards by giving advice on how to comply with the law. Sometimes they must order people to make improvements by issuing them with a notice, for example a prohibition notice, which prohibits an activity until remedial action has been taken.

We became the health and safety regulator for the rail industry in April 2006. We enforce health and safety legislation on the railways in England, Scotland and Wales. Prior to April 2006, the HSE enforced legislation on the railway and their notices can be found on the HSE website.

Copies of prohibition notices issued by us can be found on our public register, and details are also listed by year on our website:

For earlier notices please visit the National Archives.
