How many people use the railway
Below you can find the number of passenger journeys made in Britain by train operator, quarter by quarter. Quarters follow the financial year, so for example, Q1 would start with April 1 and end with June 30.
We calculate passenger journeys based on travel from an origin station to a destination station. When a train journey includes one or more changes of train, a journey is generated for each train used.
Detailed figures on passenger journeys can be downloaded from our data portal. Overviews of the figures for the latest quarter are available on our statistical releases page. Older releases can be found in the archive of statistical releases.
