The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)

As a public body we need to comply with FOIA, with the aim of promoting a spirit of openness and transparency. FOIA gives members of the public a right of access to all types of recorded information held by us. We normally have to deal with a request for information under FOIA within 20 working days of receiving it.

Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR)

As a public body we need to comply with EIR. EIR implements Directive 2003/4/EC on Public Access to Information and updates the law on public access to environmental information.

Equality Act 2010

Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 requires us to have due regard to:

  • eliminating discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under this Act;
  • advancing equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it (relevant protected characteristics are – age; disability; gender reassignment; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation);
  • fostering good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share.
