The Freedom of Information Act 2000

As a public body we need to comply with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). FOIA gives members of the public a right of access to all types of recorded information held by us, with the aim of promoting a spirit of openness and transparency. We would normally have to deal with a request for information under FOIA within 20 working days of receiving it.

Environmental Information Regulations 2004

As a public body we need to comply with the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR). EIR implement Directive 2003/4/EC on Public Access to Information and updates the law on public access to environmental information.

Equalities Act

Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 requires us to have due regard to:

  • eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under this Act;
  • advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it (relevant protected characteristics are – age; disability; gender reassignment; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation);
  • foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share.
